Kiltimagh is lucky as a small town to have a
fully dedicated Theatre and Arts Centre. This facility, on which IRD has
spent almost €500,000 in the last year, comprises a charming and intimate
200 seat Theatre, Lounge space which is suitable for workshops, and a large
Gallery / Exhibition space. IRD is grateful to the Department of Arts, Sport
and Tourism for funding of almost €300,000 under the Access II programme
towards the provision of such a fine facility.

The
Theatre is in daily use, for workshops and exhibitions. An example of the
users are:

In addition,
the Exhibition space has been used to exhibit the work of local artists like
Sally McKenna and to host historical exhibitions like the collection of
newspaper memorabilia by Basil Burke.

District
Court Sittings:
The Courts
Services also rent the full facility to hold the monthly sittings of the
District Court in a partnership that has existed since 2001. The arrangement
suits both parties as the Court Service gets a value for money premises and
the Town Hall has an income from the rental of the space which has
facilitated the upkeep of the premises.
Conferences/ Meetings:
The Building
is fully equipped to cater for conferences and meetings of up to 150 people.
It has full lighting, audio and video facilities and sufficient Kitchen

Some past events in the Town Hall Theatre:
Bealtaine film Screening – May 2006
The movie classic “The Philadelphia Story” was

“Come Good Rain” – May 2006
The award winning play “Come Good Rain” by well
known actor George Seremba was held in the Town Hall Theatre and was very
well received with an excellent attendance. Members of the local
community and residents of the local hostel enjoyed the quality production
and the evening as a whole immensely. The event was also attended by
members of Mayo Intercultural Group and residents of the Ballyhaunis
asylum seekers hostel. The play content was particularly relevant as the
project was an integration project and part funded by RIA through East
Mayo LDP.
“Blue Raincoat Theatre Co.” – June 2006
Sligo based
theatre company, “Blue Raincoat”, brought two new productions “A Brief
Taste of Lightning” and “Sanctuary” to the Town Hall Theatre in June. The
show was fantastic and the company built a specially constructed stage on
the upper half of the hall.

Mayo School
of Music residency – July 2006
As part of their summer workshop programme, Mayo
School of Music public performances were held each Friday throughout July
for family and friends of students of the School.
Salome – July 2006
Mayo Arts Squad brought the puppet operetta “Salome”
to Kiltimagh in June. The event was very well attended including Mayo
County Council’s Arts Officer. The project was an ambitious undertaking
by the group and worked well and got a great response from the audience.

“A Song and a Laugh” Aonghus McAnally – August 2006
“A Song and a Laugh” by Aonghus McAnally and
featuring Niamh Murray opened its nationwide tour in Kiltimagh.

Les Amis and In Irons – September 2006
Two new short plays by Mayo based playwrights Paul
Soye and Wesley Lock were performed in The Town Hall Theatre in
September. Les Amis and In Irons have been performed in the Linenhall and
will go on to a run in the Galway Town Hall Theatre in October.
“The Tailor and Ansty” – New Theatre Co. October
2006
In October the Dublin based New Theatre Co. brought
their very successful production of the “Tailor and Ansty” to the Town
