What it
is?
The IRD Kiltimagh voluntary housing
programme is an effort to provide housing in Kiltimagh for those who are not
best placed to provide their own privately owned accommodation. It works on
a similar basis to Local Authority Housing in other town except that
application is made to IRD Kiltimagh and the company works closely with the
council in the allocation of housing.
How
the scheme works?
IRD Kiltimagh Ltd. has worked closely with
Mayo County Council and the Dept. of the Environment since 1992 to implement an
extensive voluntary housing programme in the Kiltimagh area. To date, the company has provided 34 units
of accommodation in various locations in Kiltimagh through a combination of
estate development at Walshtown, new builds and refurbishments.

Benefits of the Scheme?
As well as dealing with local housing
needs, the programme has helped with village enhancement through the
acquisition of properties that were derelict and refurbishing these in an
effort to breathe life and vibrancy into various streets in the town. At the moment, the IRD housing programme
accommodates just over 80 residents, which might seem quite little but when
one considers that the town population is just 1,000 people, it is a
significant proportion.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible normally involves being
eligible for Local Authority Housing. In general terms, those on low income
or who are unemployed can apply, regardless of marital status. The programme
welcomes applications from all individuals who are not in a position to
provide their own accommodation by virtue of low income or other reasons. If
in doubt as to whether you might be eligible, please contact our office in
confidence and we will advise whether or not your application can be
considered.
I am on the Mayo County Council Housing
list for Kiltimagh, isn't this enough?
To be considered for housing with IRD
Kiltimagh Ltd, you must have made application to the company for
consideration for housing. In the Kiltimagh area, you should be on both the
Mayo County Council and IRD Kiltimagh Ltd., housing lists. Even though we
work closely with Mayo County Council on our housing programme, we do not
have access to the list of applicants for Mayo County Council housing in the
are.
Rents?
Rents currently vary from €57 to €75 per
week depending on the number of bedrooms required. Some subvention may be
available, depending on the applicants circumstances by contacting the local
Community Welfare Officer.
What to do next?
We are constantly seeking to keep our list
of eligible applicants up to date. If you have a housing need and feel that
you may be eligible, why not contact the office and we can talk you through
the requirements. If you feel you are eligible, please submit an application on the
housing application form below and we'll take it from there. Please submit
documentary evidence of income with the application form. If you have
already made an application and your circumstances or address has changed,
let us know by completing a new form (available for download below), or by
contacting the office.
What we do then?
Once we receive an application, it will be
acknowledged and any further information required will be requested. The
application will be
constantly reviewed and examined in the context of any accommodation which
becomes available. Applications are dealt with on the basis of suitability
of available accommodation to the clients needs and the priority ranking
given to the client in terms of their housing needs.
