With a population of
1,400 Kiltimagh is a small yet vibrant community. It hosts a
range of community services including library
(with free computer/Internet access) health centre, fire station, garda (police) barracks, community centre and a fully
equipped gym complete with cardiovascular, circuit and weight training
equipment, sauna, steam room, sun room and showers. Young children
can avail of the local playschool while those aged 3 - 13 years have a fun
time at the supervised indoor Maghu’s Castle at 'Tír
na nÓg' Venture Fun
Park (Land of Youth) in the centre of town.
Other clubs and facilities include two squash courts and
handball court (the squash club boasts 40 weekly active members. Over
60 people play the card game twenty-five in the local community centre each
Thursday. The choral society with over 50 members, have consistently
ranked competitively in the top three at national level.
The local St. Aidens National School (children up to 12 years)
has twelve teachers and also offers piano lessons. St. Louis Community School was
founded in 1912 and is distinguished by its excellent IT facilities.
The Town Enhancement Programme has resulted in the
renewal of derelict sites, the development of an Artisan Village
theme and refurbishment of uninhabited buildings for social
housing. The number of new houses
in Kiltimagh has grown at a pace, which reflects the vibrancy of the
town and investors have taken note of the growing employment base in the
district.
